Son of a Powell

We have had to listen to another groaning and pathetic pitch from Colin Powell’s son – who heads up the Federal Communications Commission.
This time he claims that “Overheated words, however, obscure what should be an important debate over two American values that are, at times, in tension. As one deeply suspicious of government involvement in the regulation of content, I understand and often agree with those who stand up for the cherished value of free speech. But as a parent, I respect the desire of the American people for a minimum level of decency on the public airwaves - particularly where their children are concerned.”
He further whines “The often unenviable task of striking a balance between these two competing values falls to the Federal Communications Commission.”
It’s clear that foul language and sexually explicit content should not be dumped onto the public airwaves.
What’s not clear is why Powell is writing up columns in the New York Times.
It’s odd that he targets his words regionally through news organizations he regulates.
Why the fixation on New York City? Is he attempting to blunt criticism that his politically motivated enforcement of FCC rules stirred up in New York City?
Powell h as apparently used his office to drive Howard Stern off the air.
I never particularly cared for Mr. Stern’s delivery, however, he didn’t whine about his job – he did it – and he speaks the truth – two things I don’t feel I can say about Baby Powell and the FCC.
