Let Them Hug Their Dead

‘He’s playin’ dead. He ain’t dead. He’s just pretendin’. He pretendin’ to be dead.’
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The marine shot into the body on the ground.
A lifeless body?
A wounded prisoner?
‘The war has taken a turn…’…say the newscasters in their comfortable homes.
Men and women in Iowa, Indiana, Montana and South Dakota look on and ‘understand’.
But they don’t do anything to bring the soldiers home.
In any case - the Occupation of Iraq continues. The threats, the burnings, the blaring loudspeakers, the destruction of hospitals and the breaking down of bridges - all designed for a purpose.
Where is Osama?
The pressure increases on the Iraqis. The death of their fighters and anyone stupid enough to be around when the Americans show up is freely shown across the ‘Arab’ world. To what effect?
Well - no one has told them yet - but this vicious and savage attack is designed to shame Osama and cause those close to him to surrender him up to the Americans. It’s all his fault you see. We can’t help ourselves. That’s why we don’t need a plan and why there isn’t one.
In any case everyone is making lots of money so who cares?
In the meantime - it’s not right to put the young Marine on the cross. It’s would be better to wrap him in the flag and bring him home quietly to sleep under his own free skies.
Let the Arabs hug their dead.
Bring us Osama.
